How to Apply DTF Transfers
Applying DTF transfers is quick and reliable once your heat press is dialed in. The settings below are general starting points. Every press, film, and garment is a little different, so run a test press and adjust temperature, time, and pressure to suit your equipment and materials.
What You Will Need
- Your DTF transfer
- A heat press (a household iron is not recommended for consistent results)
- The garment or item you are decorating
- Parchment paper or a Teflon sheet
Step-by-Step Application
- Preheat the garment. Press the blank item for 5-10 seconds to remove moisture and flatten the surface.
- Position the transfer. Place the transfer with the printed side down exactly where you want it.
- Press. Press at approximately 300-315°F (150-157°C) for about 15 seconds using medium pressure.
- Peel. Use a warm-to-hot peel: remove the film in a smooth, steady motion. If the design lifts, lay the film back down and press for a few more seconds before peeling again.
- Re-press to finish. Cover the design with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet and press again for about 10 seconds. This step improves durability and gives a smoother finish.
Wash & Care Tips
- Wait at least 24 hours before the first wash.
- Machine wash cold, inside out, on a gentle cycle.
- Avoid harsh detergents and bleach.
- Tumble dry low or hang to dry.
- Do not iron directly over the design.
These are general guidelines. We recommend testing on a scrap garment first and fine-tuning the settings for your specific press and fabric.
